Your tax dollars at work

Astounding to see it laid out so clearly in a bar graph. This stuff always makes me wonder where all the "small government" republicans disappeared to. Wasn't that supposed to be their thing? There ain't nothing small about that budget. Reminds me... gotta go do my taxes... I'm paying for a war, don't ya know.

If you haven't yet seen the documentary "Why We Fight" (I saw it on You Tube) you definitely should. talks a little bit about how beholden the politicians, Reps and Dems alike, are to these fat defense cats. It is truly disturbing but really informative. A short doc too, really well done. Goes all the way through 9-11 and the Iraq War.

Yes, the republicans are complete hypocrites. They are all for "corporate" welfare (see bail out of Bear Stearns and the airline industry for recent examples) and huge military spending, as their own personal portfolios are often linked with it somehow. A long lineage of high ups in Gov't are closely linked with military. Halliburton and Cheney is a recent example of one corporation htat is linked with military events (ie construction and infrastructure creation once a war destroys everything), Bechtel (Sec of State George Shulz was head of that for awhile) Boeing, etc. They build it to destroy, so they can build some more. And the space war games are already underway. Such an amazing pilfering of our national wealth, for absolutely no return except those employed by or related to it, while social services, transport and education gets cut from the budget. The vast majority of citizens would object to this if you asked them to allocate their taxes, but they are unaware of the reality (CNN, the most trusted source for news" is certainly trusted by the status quo not to rock the boat by illuminating it!) and do not contemplate it seriously.

Whew. I haven't even had my coffee yet. Damn, Matty, why'd you have to go and get me all riled up first thing this morning?

of course, preaching to the choir results in gracious support! I constantly toil over how to personalize these ideas to the people who socially, politically, and even religiously support this load of crap in the name of safety. As soon as big words and "unknown" political figures take a place in the argument, attention by the general public, most importantly the biggest supporters of the republican regime, those being the suburbanites, is lost. I want to bring it home to them so I was trying to think of a way. I was thinking...like, working more to spend more money for a fence in their yard and crazy expensive security system to protect them from the neighbors when their delinquent and unattended to teenager ends up bringing trouble into the house under the radar?? some simple analogy for the irrational war mongering, "defense" spending supporting freaks...
Let the choir sing! Hope all is well, Patrick...
I'm watching congress and military leaders discuss the plight of the u.s. in Iraq on cspan 2 right now. tack on $750 billion over the next 10 years, sir. $750 billion. interesting to see retired u.s. commanders debate this issue with current members of congress. they're saying it's pretty much gonna be the same until the next administration in deed, word, and even thought. interesting how we're paying for people to be over there when they'd rather pay for themselves and their families over here...becoming taxpayers themselves.
me again...2 things...they're considering we've spent 600 billion up to this point on the Iraq war...close enough. the other thing is that it's interesting how critical we, as in the general u.s. public, are so quick to demand having an effective leader in place in Iraq in order for us to pass the baton on to the Iraqi people when the big picture right now is that we are the one's without an effective leader. not just the wrong decisions anymore...he's absolutely disengaged. our congress needs, NEEDS a leader! the u.s. needs a frickin leader, man.
